I am in a house mood right now. In my work-in-progress, I've just moved my heroine into a house built in 1577...and it hasn't been much upgraded since, even though the story is set in 1887! That got me to thinking about a novel I wrote in the steamy summer of 2006--Gunshot Grange. This too is set around a great house, but it's in much better shape, at least at the beginning of the novel . A contemporary romance novel with an in-book story set during the Depression, you will be visiting southern Washington State.

Though the action begins in May, the heroine is looking forward to August, since she is trying to find a new teaching job. Gunshot Grange begins as she is travelling through a late spring storm to a wedding, a traditional summer pastime. When she meets my mysteriously sexy hero, Rick, it's time for the fireworks to begin! The weather may be cold, but Marci's blood runs hot. Truth be told, Marci is a little heated under the collar from the beginning, as the first two lines will attest:

"The bride was a dead woman. If someone hadn’t done the dirty deed by the time Marci arrived, she’d take care of it herself."

from page 2, upping the heat!

"Marci’s flashlight illuminated legs molded into form-fitting jeans, a flat stomach clad in some silky black fabric, outrageously defined pecs, wide shoulders and—"

Okay, I'm fanning myself now, and not just because it's ninety degrees outside today!

Blurb:

Chicago historian Marci Sky isn't looking forward to bridesmaid duty at her old friend's Washington State mansion. Her deceased movie star grandmother was born in the area though, and she's always wanted to solve the mystery surrounding her grandmother's youth.

Rick Kinslee is best man at his cousin's wedding. He'd rather focus on propping up his troubled company, but is distracted by the beautiful out-of-town visitor. When she, lonely and very attracted to him, offers him a one-night stand, he eagerly takes her up on it. She's as sexy as hell, but he soon has reason to be suspicious of Marci's true motives in pursuing him.

Marci is targeted in several minor crimes and soon the stakes are escalating. Could the Kinslee family have been involved in Marci's family tragedy? Can shefind a new family and love after being set adrift from her former life?
