The New Year II

About this time last year (well, okay, I'm almost 2 weeks off but I was sick) I was musing about goals for 07. Here's what I wrote:

"More importantly, I need to get systematic about writing. In 2007, my first year of having novel-length fiction published, I hope to have six to eight releases, depending on whether everything I have submitted right now to my present publishers is purchased fairly soon. That would hopefully be three novels and the rest short stories to novella-length. Of those eight possible releases, five were written last year, only one a novel however. I can write faster than I did last year, though I'm not sure I ever have.
My goal then, is to write/finish two novels and ummm, three novellas in 2007. I think. Depending on what publishers I'm working with.  And of course, one of those eight possible releases for 07 isn't quite done yet. Must finish! Luckily, I have so many series going I have at least some idea of where those five projects I hope to get done will begin. It will save time.
Now I should start plotting all this on a calendar to see if I can really do it, and what my timeline would be. Maybe not too exciting a way to spend time, but it beats working on taxes!"

Did I make my goals? I did have three novels out last year, along with four shorter projects, an article and a poem. I certainly made my release goal, though two of the stories I'd hoped would be released weren't. One of them has been accepted for this year, and the other has had some interest, so I keep my fingers crossed.
My other goal of course was the actual writing goal. I did write/finish three novels - all spring releases from Ellora's Cave or Cerridwen. I also completed two novellas and a non-fiction book. Wow, I think I made my goal and then some!
Last year was chaotic and stressful much of the time, unfortunately, though rarely because of my writing career, which has been a joy and a blessing. I'm hoping things settle down so I can enjoy life more, be more relaxed and catch fewer colds and flu. That's a better goal than writing! So far this year, I've edited two short stories and finished another. Next is a full edit of a short novel, then I'll probably write another novella, then a full novel. Somewhere in there will be a lot of edits. Maybe I'll come up with a fresh goal for 08 after that!
