Aphrodite’s Necklace

Aphrodite’s Necklace is part of the Torrid Tarot series. The story is based on the Queen of Pentacles Tarot card. The card is symbolic of love of sensual pleasures for pleasure’s sake alone.

As punishment for a misdeed, Aphrodite has been banished to London. The year is 1844 and she is bored silly by nearly everything. An idea comes to her that will bring some excitement into the otherwise dull time. She places a spell on a necklace. Then she goes to a ball in search of one worthy enough to enjoy the benefits of the spell she has cast. Emily Rogers finds the enchanted necklace and Aphrodite’s magic is set in motion. Emily and her butler, Will, are drawn together, unable to resist the charms of Aphrodite’s necklace. The couple doesn’t know that it is the necklace that has released their passions so they search for the rightful owner in order to return it.

This story is interesting and kept my attention throughout. The way Emily and Will first come together, with him learning to undo her corsets and comparing her to a gift, is touching and tender. The sex scenes are imaginative and well written. There is a dream sequence that, while being somewhat farfetched, moves the story forward. The enchanted necklace, its effect on the wearer and the way the couple reacts without the enchantment is fairly predictable but Anh Leod has written the story so well it feels fresh and new. Aphrodite’s Necklace is a pleasure to read.
