Happy blogger anniversary to me! I can't believe I've been blogging for one year as of yesterday. Last August is such a blur for me with all the craziness that started at my first novel-length sale. But anyway...
The past couple of days I treated myself to restarting and yeah!, finishing, a book just for me. Didn't read it for research or anything, just enjoyed it. That book is Underdead by Liz Jasper, and it's a paranormal mystery from Cerridwen Press (
www.cerridwenpress.com). It's available electronically now and hopefully it gets into paper soon so it can find an even wider audience.
It's so good. Jasper is such a funny, clever author and you will find yourself smiling and laughing through the entire book - it stays good until the end, which is a disappointment simply because the mystery plot is solved, the book ends and we have to wait for the sequel.
Jo is a 22-year old science teacher who doesn't think she is very attractive. In fact, she dresses much older to try to get the respect of her students, who after all aren't that much younger than she is. A vampire finds her quite hot though, and tries to turn her. She escapes before the process is finished and ends up "underdead." I've seen a number of variations on half-vamps before, but this version is quite original. Not only does she have a struggle to maintain her life despite the changes her body is making, there is also a murderer afoot on campus. Are the vamps killing her coworkers or is there a more mortal evil afoot? We have a love triangle developing too, between the head vamp, Will, and police detective Gavin. Jo also has a number of highly entertaining teacher friends and a high-octane mother, so there is plenty of room for engaging sequels to come.
This book is a great read for vampire fans, mystery fans, humor fans and romance fans! Go out and get it today.
