Some background on Looking Forward, Looking Back
I grew up reading my father's science fiction. Eventually I started writing romance and mostly read that but every so often I want to read a good spaceship story and I've found them hard to find. Ironically some of them have ended up in romance now, like Robin Owens' Heart Quest stories. Looking Forward, Looking Back is my version of a spaceship story and I'm working on the sequel now.
It's also an asthma story. I have asthma myself and I'm old enough to have grown up with it at a time when far fewer kids suffered from it, meaning I felt like an outcast at times. Now it seems like everyone has it (if I understand the stats the number of children with asthma had about doubled in the US by 2003) but back when I was doing a science fair project about asthma the stats were 7% of kids and 1% of adults had it. If the scientists can't figure out why it's getting worse and how to cure it this story shows one possible result.
