I had three meetings yesterday, which was way too many for one little Saturday. I had to miss part of the second to get to a day job meeting (yes, on a Saturday, Grrr), which was too bad. It was a presentation by Theresa Meyers of Blue Moon Communications. She's a publicist based in Washington State who is also a Triskelion author now. I had taken an online class from her in the past and was glad I was able to hear her in person. If you have the opportunity to hear what she has to say, I'd recommend it.
The main thing I'd taken away from her class was to have at least 3 reasons for any publicity piece you do. She brought bookmarks for her May release, and I was able to ask her what her three reasons were. She said she actually had six or seven, but the three she gave were 1) to be able to do mailings through Bookstores that Care that were cheap to mail 2) better than a business card 3) helps to build a mailing list because you can offer to send people autographed book marks.
I was still a little confused because I thought Triskelion was primarily an e-book publisher, so why would you email bookmarks to booksellers. But apparently her book is out electronically now, and is out in print in May. I went to the Triskelion website to check out the book, and their bookstore is down! What a missed opportunity. I hope it isn't down often.
She also said if you're going to do a blog, make sure to update it at least once a week!
