writing as wish fulfillment

I'm working on the first draft of my second Brotherhood of the Dog series for Ellora's Cave now, and I have a scene I'm writing which is set in a bathroom. I find myself giving the hero all the bathroom fixtures I want--the big square, tiled bathtub I vaguely remember from some Cleopatra movie, the spiral shower I saw in an Oprah magazine, the Pompeii-style mosaics.
I have to wonder, is this satisfying or not? Of course, I'm never going to have these things in the tiny bathrooms of my "starter" house. At least it gives me an excuse to read magazines and get ideas. Everything I see or read or watch is in my brain somewhere, like in Gunshot Grange, where one of my characters had a closet full of all the designer clothes I wish I could buy for myself.
We also have characters who take the jobs we want. One of these days I'm going to write an archeologist hero. I've been reading an archeology magazine for years in preparation!
You may laugh, but these are the things which go into the creation of a book. In my mind, I can wave my magic wand and poof! my characters are stylin'!
Did you think this blog was going to be about my wish to be a werewolf? Nah...too much hair.
