It would be hard to shock your faithful correspondent more that she was yesterday, when she received the usual review roundup email from Cerridwen Press. There at the bottom was Cards Never Lie by Heather Hiestand. In total shock, because I'd only seen a final copy of the book four days earlier myself, I got up from the computer and literally ran away from it!
Yes, dear reader, eventually I returned to my computer, or you wouldn't be reading this now. I even opened the review while keeping my eyes open and everything. I'm a long time reviewer myself, so I knew the truth would be especially painful. And knowing all too well how hard it is for small press authors to get reviewed, I was just floored to hear from The Romance Studio's Brenda Talley.
The results:  She gave me a Four Stars (Very Good) rating! Yeah! And that one wee quibble she had about keeping track of everyone and their roles a couple of times? She's one smart reviewer. I write plot heavy books with lots going on. Every book I've written that's 75K or longer has multiple bad guys and stuff. Clearly I need to do a better job of explaining all the meandering pathways of my busy brain, and I appreciate the feedback.
Here is my favorite part of the review:

"The story presented here is a good one and my interest never waned; Melanie seemed like she had a black cloud over her head. Poor child was exposed to so much perplexity that, I’m sure, she thought she was losing her mind. This is believable because seldom, in real life, does only one thing “happen” which so drastically changes situations. That there were problems from more than one angle makes the awkwardness more credible. Ms. Hiestand is an author I was unfamiliar with, but would recommend her work to others.
This work is a good, solid book which made for an interesting read which I’m glad to have read."

Is that cool or what? Thanks Brenda, for being my first single title reviewer!

Congratulations Heather! It won't be much longer now and the rest of us will get to read/review The Cards Never Lie. Although it'll be tough, I'll probably wait for the paperback so I can get an autographed version for my library. How exciting!!
