The New Year

I've been reading a lot of comments from Cerridwen Press/Ellora's Cave authors on how frequently we should have novels/novellas out for readers. A couple authors commented that they had releases out every month last year. Wow! With to-be-read piles that are in some cases a decade behind, I can't imagine finding time to read even a fave author every month. I wish!
How many books do you read a month? I probably read six to ten, with four to eight of those being books I'm reviewing. I'm more prolific if I like all the books and therefore am getting through them faster. Honestly, how busy I am doesn't always play into it, though it can, of course. Right now I'm plodding through the second of a not-very-good trilogy by one of my favorite authors, and I know it's not going to be read quickly. Boring story, stock, unsympathetic characters, and tiny print! A bad combination, to be sure, but since I'm reviewing it I have to finish it.
More importantly, I need to get systematic about writing. In 2007, my first year of having novel-length fiction published, I hope to have six to eight releases, depending on whether everything I have submitted right now to my present publishers is purchased fairly soon. That would hopefully be three novels and the rest short stories to novella-length. Of those eight possible releases, five were written last year, only one a novel however. I can write faster than I did last year, though I'm not sure I ever have.
My goal then, is to write/finish two novels and ummm, three novellas in 2007. I think. Depending on what publishers I'm working with. And of course, one of those eight possible releases for 07 isn't quite done yet. Must finish! Luckily, I have so many series going I have at least some idea of where those five projects I hope to get done will begin. It will save time.
Now I should start plotting all this on a calendar to see if I can really do it, and what my timeline would be. Maybe not too exciting a way to spend time, but it beats working on taxes!
Happy New Year!
