I can't believe it! This is my fiftieth blog entry! The words just keep piling up. When I started the Musings I didn't think I'd have anything to say. Now the collected Musings are as long as a novella. I'm going to feel really silly when they hit novel length and I realize I could have written an entire book in a few paragraphs every other day or so...
Since I started the Musings, I've sold two novels and a novella. Those are turned in now, since I sent in the completed novella last night. My editor said she'd be reading it on a beach in Australia. Sounds like fun!
Now I'm adrift again, hoping for that next contract. I've got another short novella and another novel close to being done, although a critique partner threw me a multi-page curve ball in critique form last night. She was the last person to sound in on Grange, and oh boy, did she have a lot for me to think about. If only my brain didn't choose 4:30 a.m. this morning to do the thinking! But I vaguely remember one insight from that hideously earlier hour and will try to write the new scene.
At any rate, I end this year where I began, without a contract and hoping some editor will like my work. But what amazing things have happened in between! Hopefully the relationships I've built with publishers will continue to bear fruit and next year I'll be able to see a few of my darlings with covers and dedications. I have to publish more, just so I can dedicate books to everyone who has helped me over the years!
Now I'm off to do last minute Christmas shopping. The new Ellora's Cavemen Dreams of the Oasis IV is out today, and I can't wait to read it. I deserve a gift too!

It's been a life-changing year for you, but the fact that you're ending it without a new contract isn't quite true -- you're ending with new contracts on the horizon. Because you know, there WILL be others! If only to address all those people who have to be mentioned in your dedications!
