It's that time again. Just as I sent in the edits for my second novel and told my editor it was time to go back to my werewolf (a romantica novella-in-progress) she told me no, I had to do the dedications, blurbs and excepts-thing again. I told her my husband wouldn't like that, since he was pressuring me to get back to the werewolf (who just happens to be a construction worker like him) and she wrote back "tell hubby you need to practise a bit more for the werewolf first (<g>!" Those crazy Aussie editors! Like hubby needs these suggestions when I'm busy editing!
Anyhow, the dedication was simple enough, though I didn't dare quote the song lyrics I wanted to, but the excerpt was a puzzler. We are told it should be romantic in nature, and 800-1200 words, preferably from the first two chapters. Never did I realize One Juror Down so completely intertwined a legal thriller and romance until I had to find 800+ straight romance-type words in a row. I'd find a spot that looked good, then discover it was only 111 words! The spot I ultimately picked was toward the end of the second chapter. We'll see how it looks when the book is out. One assumes we'll see the book released electronically toward the end of spring, but really I have no idea - just basing that on how the first book went.
Next, I have to do the blurb. I thought I was pretty clever with the first book, but I looked at the blurb today and decided it was too short. Too late now! Hopefully I will come up with something scintillating, but it's getting late so I shall have to be clever tomorrow. I also need to work on stuff for an ad.
Who said writers had time to write?
