I sent in my cover request for Cards Never Lie. I went back to an old Dentyne ad that really captured the sense of the book--it had a girl and a devil together in an ice cave and their expressions and body language were perfect for Melanie and Rob. I scanned it and sent it to the cover artist, and suggested they use it as the basis for the cover, since I've been told no Tarot card covers can be requested by my publisher's authors until partway through 2008.
That's because Ellora's Cave has a very hot Tarot series going on next year. Well, I had missed knowing about that! Eilis mentioned it to me a couple days ago, and now I'm going to be doing a book for that series under the name Anh Leod. I've had fun pulling out my Tarot books, which were gathering dust. The theme of my book is the Queen of Pentacles card, and I got lots of good stuff from my old The Sexual Key to the Tarot book.
I've already started the story, which will probably be novella-length, and once again I'm setting a story in Victorian London, though earlier than my sweet alternate reality Victoriana romances. This story looks like it is going to be set in fall 1844, which is during the Dickens era, but before any of the Brontes started publishing. The clothes aren't quite as big in the 1840s - none of those crinolines yet, and it's even before Buckingham Palace had gaslight.
Right now I'm having fun with research. I'm reading a Jack the Ripper book for atmosphere, though he was at the end of the century. My research books are finally arriving, and I'm looking forward to digging in to them!

I can't wait to see how the cover for CNL turns out. And this story for EC is going to be a novella? I thought it was going to be a short story, so good luck -- I know you have a tight deadline!

The tarot stories have to be at least 10K , and could be up to 120K. This is computer word count, not page count, which is a lot different for me since I tend to do a lot of dialogue! My last 32 page story (which would be 10K word count) was only 6500 words!
