The profession

I received my Cards Never Lie edits yesterday, and really dug into them today. This cut my new pages count down to three, which is never good when you set a personal goal of finishing a story tomorrow! The business of writing seems more real all the time. I've been writing/editing seven days a week since I sold, and I expect this to continue for at least five years as I establish myself.
I also learned today that harsh lesson: "it doesn't get any easier once you sell." I received my first rejection since I sold today, on a nearly two-year old proposal that was lost then found again. At least the replacement editor to the one I originally sent it to in 2004 got back to me immediately. What writer doesn't appreciate that? It was the same exact rejection reason I usually get. At least I know I still have to work on my personal writerly flaws. That is a good reminder never to get sloppy or lazy!
So for me, I'm buried on one hand in the Isle of Wight in 1864, and the other, in Las Vegas in the present day! Wish me luck...
