The Great Depression in books

A decade or so ago, I started to have ideas and collect research books about the 1930s in America. I'm fascinated by this period. So much changed about our country during those years, and if you've ever interacted with people who came of age then, you'd see the scars run deep.

A few years back, I even started to see movies and literary fiction out there set in this period. Where are the romance novels? Is anyone out there other than Dorothy Garlock allowed to mine this rich period? My current project, The Grange, has a few pages of flashbacks to 1933. The central story mystery began in this period as well. I'm hoping I can get away with this, like Suzanne Brockmann has managed to do with WWII subplots in some of her books.

Just yesterday, I read the beginning of an unpublished manuscript set in 1930/1. Ah, another brave pioneer!

Are you interested in reading romances set in first half of the 20th century?

I am. The Great Depression was a big part of the Greatest Generation, and how one went to form the other has always been a source of great interest.
